How to measure head size

To determine the right size wig for you, measure the circumference of your head from the front hairline, behind your ear, to the nape of your neck, to your other ear and then back to the front hairline. Jot down your measurement then consult the table below. Please note that sizes may vary slightly by brand.

    A color I dreamt of

    This is not my first wig, but is my first wig review, so I’m not going to skimp on words.

    Before blasting into the world of wigs, a color I hoped to try with my bio hair was something that looked like a grassy meadow in the dead of winter. The mix of warm reds, browns, beiges, and frost/snow seemed like a look that would look native to my coloring. Along comes Raquel Welch’s Upstage large, in RL16/88 pale golden honey. Comparing to other large caps, Upstage is similar to Jon Renau’s Cameron, and Gabor’s Epic (albeit Epic is shorter at the nape,) but this color is unique.

    Amongst Welch colors, it’s more dynamic than RH14/88, golden wheat, and a bit warmer, plus a tad deeper, than RL19/23, biscuit. I can’t compare it to hues in other brands yet.

    As regards to Upstage’s large hand tied cap, I find it more fitting than JR Cameron large, and less stretchy. It’s not too small, but my head XL measurements, specifically temple to temple around back of head, and front hairline to nape, push this Raquel Welch cap to its limits. Any smaller and I would have had to return it, because hand tied can’t be stretched the way some machine made caps can. Wish there was more give, but it’s definitely wearable.

    One more thing I’ll discuss is the weight. On paper, Upstage is touted to weigh a couple fractions of an ounce heavier than JR Cameron, but in my hand, and on my head, it feels lighter. I assume this is a demonstration in construction variances from wig to wig. I ought to weigh…

    A Bit Disappointed

    I was looking forward to this wig but I had the most difficult time getting the hair to set away from my face. The hair wanted to lay forward in front of my entire face like Cousin It. Three months later, the ends are heavily frayed and want to tangle.

    The shaded biscuit I got looked more like cappacino - very warm and dark compared to pictures and description. Plus it's still just so much hair. I am getting a Real Deal in the same color after the woman who helped me said the warehouse people can look at the wigs and pick the one that trends lighter and not yellow. She said she would put a note on the order to avoid one with a yellow cast. So I'm giving it one more try.

    First Raquel Welsh Wig

    I had to get used seeing myself in the mirror with so much hair in such a light color.

    After some handling with my hands, I got it right. So, with styling products, I'm sure I can fix it the way I want.

    Must say, the quality of the wig is superb!
