Buying A Wig For The First Time

Buying A Wig For The First Time

Buying your first wig can be an intimidating process. Wigs come in a wide variety of sizes, styles, colors, and constructions—one wig may flatter your friend’s complexion while washing out yours. Follow the four steps below to make your wig selection easy!

Determine Your Wig Size

While sizes range from petite to large, 95% of our wig customers are of average size. If you’re between sizes, most of our wigs also have adjustable straps that can add up to 1.5 inches in length to the circumference of your wig. For help with accurately measuring your head, view our quick wig size how-to!

Select Your Wig Style

Now that you know your wig size, browse our large wig collection to see what style of wig best suits you: do you want long curls, bangs, or a simple pixie cut? Are you looking for a cheap wig that's easy on the wallet? Feel free to experiment or ask one of our experienced client care specialists for help! Many of our customers are pleasantly surprised when they discover the style that best suits them.

Pick Your Wig Color

A perfectly sized and styled wig is still missing something essential: color! For a natural, healthy look, your ideal wig should have the right color temperature for your skin tone. You’ll want to coordinate your wig with your makeup, too—if you tend to alternate makeup products throughout the week, you may want to select a more flexible hair color. At Wigoutlet.com, we don’t believe you should have to sacrifice your preferred style to get the right hair color! Ask yourself, "What colors do I already love?" and "What's a color I've always wanted to try?"

Choose Your Wig Cap Construction

Wig Cap

With your size, style, and color determined, you can now choose your cap construction. There are a wide variety of wig constructions: lace front wigs, hand-tied wigs, and monofilament wigs are some of the most common types—and some wigs are a combination of multiple constructions! Every type has its pros and cons: hand-tied wigs are designed for sensitive skin, while monofilament caps offer a more natural look. Wigs are also available in synthetic fiber or human hair options. If you’re not sure which construction is right for you, view our simple cap construction tutorial to better understand the differences between the types!
